Co-hosts, Megan Mehta and Alexis Bondarenko, discuss their experiences as women pursuing careers in/related to S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).
New episode coming out on 9/7/2020.
Megan Mehta is fascinated by the intersection of climate change, data science, and communications. Alexis Bondarenko is obsessed with space. The common ground? They are both women interested in pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). It's not a secret that STEM careers are extremely popular in the Bay Area; however, minorities and women are disproportionally represented and left behind. Although these industries are becoming increasingly diverse, women pursuing STEM continue to face challenges. In this episode of Think Scope, Megan Mehta and Alexis Bondarenko discuss their personal experience pursuing STEM, including challenges/setbacks and the privilege of having strong mentors. They also discuss why some teens (especially women and people of color) feel anxious to explore STEM, or discouraged to continue exploring. They also discuss why it is important to establish a welcoming environment and encourage people of color and women to explore STEM.
